Our Story

Welcome to Poor Richard’s Cafe. The oldest restaurant in Plano, TX and the last of its kind. This might be a place where you come to talk sports, politics and reminisce about how things have changed. It might be a place where you come to meet friends for lunch or read the paper over coffee. It might be all of that, but mostly we hope it’s a place that serves the best home-cooking you have ever had.

Meet Our Owner

For almost 30 years, Sonja Ryder has called Poor Richard’s Cafe her home away from home. This one-time manager was promoted 3 times from hostess to cashier and then to waitress. Hard work, determination, and grit have allowed her to take the reins of this Plano, TX institution. She might not have set out to be an inspiration, but she certainly is a true American success story.
Her love of people and passion for food are the driving forces behind her entrepreneur rise to fame.  Her charm & wit have kept customers coming back for decades.  She loves working on new recipes, maintaining the highest standards, giving back to the community and leading Poor Richards Cafe into the future.
